When is heART of the City?
Mark your calendars for Friday, January 9th from 5:00-7:30PM. From 5:00-6:30PM you’ll have the opportunity to explore this temporary gallery and even vote for your favorite. Starting at 6:30PM we will cheer on our wearable artwork during the fashion show, after which will follow the much anticipated awards ceremony. From 7:00-7:30PM you’ll have a little more time to take in any artwork you may have missed before artists depart with their creations.
Where will the art show be hosted?
All artwork in this found objects art show will be on display for one day only as we turn the Whittier Middle School gymnasium into a gallery for an evening. There is a parking lot available across from the building on Fairfax avenue and additional street parking is available. To enter, use the north entrance on Fairfax avenue (we will have a sign directing you).
Whittier Middle School (gymnasium)

What should I expect while I’m there?
An art show–and a unique one at that! When you enter you will be given a program with information for the evening. You’ll want to come with plenty of time to walk around and explore the many artistic creations on display. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to read a brief description from the artist that aims to connect their artwork to our show’s theme of love. We will even ask you to vote for your favorite piece in the gallery.
Around 6:30PM we will turn up the energy a little as we cheer on wearable creations and their artists as they walk the catwalk during the fashion show. This show features artwork from artists that vary significantly in age (both kids and adults), art style, and technical ability.
You will also benefit from the professional artists we enlisted to help us appreciate aspects of the submitted artwork that we may not have noticed. And a special moment in the evening is watching artists receive awards–I don’t think I’ll ever forget the beaming smiles from the 2nd grade class that took first place!
heART of the City is the perfect excuse to get out of the house: Find delight as you immerse yourself in a creative space; Find inspiration as you encounter the unexpected; Find joy as you celebrate and encourage artists from around our community!
